Free Stress reduction programmes for 2019

Mallow Wellbeing is very happy to announce Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) courses for 2019 with no cost to participants.  

  • Tuesdays from Jan 8th to Feb 27th 5.30pm - 8pm @ Mallow Cottage  

  • Thursdays from May 9th to June 27th 10am - 12.30pm @ Yoga Tree Stanthorpe 

  • Or there are limited places  for individual programme Wednesday afternoons.

This MBSR program for Stanthorpe Community has been made possible through funding provided by the Darling Downs and West Moreton PHN under the Australian Government’s PHN Program.

Weekly mindfulness drop-in class at Yoga Tree Victoria Stanthorpe  5.15pm-6pm each Wednesday $15/session casual or $110 for 10 week term.
No prior experience of meditation needed & no need to book ..just drop in and try out! 

The latest MBSR course was held in Sept/Oct with 13 participants. Evaluation of the course showed 100% felt they got something of lasting value or importance from the course with 55% feeling they coped with stress much better & 45% feeling they coped somewhat better, compared to before the course.

What is Mindfulness & what can it do?
Mindfulness, a form of ancient meditation, helps us to deal with distressing sensations by repeatedly bringing our mind into the present moment - in our body, our mind and in the world around us. We learn to do this in a way that slows harsh judgment and develops awareness, acceptance and caring – towards our self, others or our situation.

Why a course and not just use an app? 
MBSR is the “real McCoy” of mindfulness training. Unlike many shorter courses (for which there is no firm evidence yet of benefit) MBSR has 35 years of research behind it and is recognised as the gold standard for mental and physical health in the Mindfulness  field.

It has been found that while it can be helpful & relaxing for people who try mindfulness  without a properly trained teacher or with an app, they simply don’t practice.& obtain the same degree of stress reduction. Helen is well-trained, dedicated, and goes the extra distance to help you engage with the practice in a meaningful way that can bring real transformation.
Helen, a health practitioner, recently completed her level 1 teacher training in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction through the Mindfulness Training Institute of Australasia  and is enrolled in level 11 due to be registered by the end of 2018. She is mentored by both a clinical psychologist and a senior MBSR teacher. 

What's the next step to book a place?
There is  basic criteria (below) with a short interview via phone or in person prior to the course commencing.

  • It is suited to any one over 18 - men and women - living in the Stanthorpe & Granite Belt areas of Qld.

  • It can be to improve overall wellbeing or help manage mild anxiety or depression symptoms. or for those who've recovered from a more serious mental illness and want to help prevent a relapse. 

  • If you are interested, you do need to commit to attending a 2.5 hr session each week for 8 weeks, about 40 mins of daily home practice  and there is a silent day retreat Saturday 16th February.

What do I get each week from the course? 

  • Guided instruction in mindfulness meditation practices

  • Gentle stretching and mindful movement

  • Group dialogue and discussions aimed at enhancing awareness in everyday life

  • Systematic instruction in formal MBSR meditation practices, with opportunity to check in with the teacher

  • Daily home assignments

  • Downloadable home practice audio files (or CDs ) and a home practice workbook
